hold my hand out. “That’s Kendra’s seat.” She glances around. “Who’s Kendra?” It’s hard not to grit my teeth. How could anyone not know who Kendra is? She’s my fucking reason for existing. The reason I want to live and die at the same time.

“A book about a vampire.” I set my phone down next to my glasses. “Does he sparkle?” The edge of my mouth tries to pull up, knowing Ashley has to be the reason he’d ask that. But I don’t have it in me to smile. “He doesn’t. But he can smell his fated mate from across the city.” And he would never dump her. Not for anything. Not fucking ever.

can drive Joe home if you want to leave.” His tone is gentle but resigned. “Or if you want me to go… Whatever you want.” Whatever I want. It’s never been about what I want. That’s not how my life is.

“If you want children, we can find one.” “Find one?” She laughs. “You’re not stealing a child for me, Luther.” She tries to lift her head to look at me, but I use my cheek against her head to hold her in place. “I meant adoption, Brat. But if you want me to steal you a baby, I’ll steal you a baby.” “You’re ridiculous.” There’s no heat in her tone. “Ridiculous for you.”

“Please.” I beg for more. I need him to hurry. “Please, who?” He rocks his hips against me as his lips brush mine with each syllable. Warmth builds between my legs. I lick my tongue across his. Then I tilt my hips up to meet his. “Please, Daddy.” He groans. “Does my Baby need to be fucked?” I dig my heels into his lower back. “God, yes.”

I wake up alone. And I wonder if I dreamed him. If it was all in my head. But then I see it. Sitting on my nightstand. Wrapped in clear plastic. A brownie.

Ethan’s brows raise when Kendra says Dad. I don’t think he knows Joe personally, but I know he’s seen us together. And he’s seen me trying to fuck Kendra in his park. Thirty, he mouths. Fuck you, I mouth back.

try to help pay for the procedure, but when Joe insists on covering it, I don’t press the issue. I’m already practically paying for Buddy’s college tuition.

hold the phone to my chest. I like you too. “I love you, Baby Doll.” It comes out as a whisper. It’s true. It’s so fucking true. But saying it out loud… Even alone. Saying it out loud is the scariest thing I’ve done. Because when I tell her. When I tell Kendra that she has my whole damn heart… If she doesn’t feel the same way… If she doesn’t love me back… I don’t think I can recover from that. So I’ll wait. I’ll wait until she’s ready. I’ll wait as long as it fucking takes. And until then, I’ll take whatever she’s willing to give me. Me: Good.

Then I bite down on a laugh when I see Doug, a regular, walk up and press his body against Joe’s back as he tries to join the hug. Joe jolts. Doug wraps his arms around Joe’s neck, not touching the women. “What’re we hugging for?” Joe tries to shrug him off. “Dammit, Doug. You need to be invited for stuff like this.” “Aw, come on, man.” Doug drops his arms and steps back. “I never get hugs.”

Joe lets out another heavy groan. “There are no two people in this world that I love more than the two of you. And if you can love an ugly man like him…” He jabs his finger into my chest. “Then yeah, I’ll be okay with it.” Kendra sniffs. Joe shakes his head. “No crying.”

look down at Kendra. “You can move in with me—” “You can move in with him when you’re officially engaged.” Joe talks over me. Kendra rolls her lips together and nods. “That’s reasonable.”

“Ashley?” Kendra hugs her back. “I’m so excited!” Ashley keeps bouncing. “Can I be your flower girl?” She finally lets Kendra go but only steps back a few inches. Kendra looks stunned. I rest a hand on Kendra’s shoulder. “Ashley, give your new mother some room.” That snaps her out of it. Kendra gapes at me. Ashley cackles. And Jessie calls for a round of shots.

Kendra squeezes my fingers. I squeeze hers back. “Want to get married?” She lifts her brows. “Now?” My mouth pulls into a grin. “Now’s good for me.” Happiness radiates off her as she keeps smiling. “Now works.”
