On 9 June a false lead led the investigators to believe that the assassin was hiding in a small village fifteen miles from Prague called Lidice. Ten trucks filled with security police rolled into Lidice and every man in the village was rounded up, lined up against a barn wall and shot. All buildings were set alight and razed to the ground, killing those left inside.
