Fleetwood Mac’s “Go Your Own Way”
It was Gibs who’d picked me up off the ground after the breakup, and he was the one who sat with me during my darkest days—and there had been some dark fucking days. The shit I spurted after the breakup had been unhinged.
“You know why that is, don’t ya?” I said in an eerily cold tone, fully embracing the masculine superiority I had over this prick. “It’s because she’s mine.” Smirking, I prowled toward him like he was a gazelle and I was a lion. “And it doesn’t matter how many times she lets you in her bed, she’ll never want you more than she wants me.”
“It would, because once you’ve had me, you’ll never get over me,” I whispered in her ear, deciding to turn the tables on her for once, and then enjoying when she shivered in response. “It’ll be game over for you, Liz, and then what?”
“Not a chance, baby,” I growled, nuzzling her cheek with mine. “You threw away forever with me for temporary with him.”
“You didn’t crawl into my bed in the middle of the night and fuck me like he did!”
That was the thing about cheating; whether it was accidental or on purpose, it hurt just the same.
while Feely had his eye on a cute, little redhead on the dance floor.
In fact, her eyes looked like they were close to spilling tears.
And then, for the first time in my life, I kissed a girl who wasn’t named Lizzie Young.
“Your birthday party,” she replied, smirking. “Case and I both were.” She pointed to her friend again. “Feely invited us.”
“You certainly know how to use what God generously gave you, don’t ya?”
“It’s always fucking you,” he slurred, shaking his head. “You always come fucking first.”
“I’ll always love you, Hugh Biggs,” Liz said when she rounded the table and stopped in front of me. Inhaling a quivering breath, she leaned down and pressed a kiss to my cheek before whispering, “No matter what.” And then she was gone.
