“So eager for your imaginary mate.” The words were dripped in ice. The voice was only my subconscious, of course, but it almost sounded jealous.
“Do you want them all dead?” Cole asked casually, breaking the silence. I blinked, startled from my own thoughts. “What?” “If I were to kill them and torture their souls to Hell for your amusement. Would that please you?”
“I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone as vexing as you,” I bit out. “The feeling’s entirely mutual.” And then I couldn’t say which of us moved first, but suddenly our mouths collided.
“I won’t have you in my bed wearing another male’s clothing. You’ll wear my scent or nothing at all.”
“You’ll take me to them, and I’ll rip their heads from their bodies. And then I’ll post their corpses on the castle as a warning to anyone who dares try to raise a hand against you.”
“Your enemies are mine to deal with. I will kill anyone who attempts to harm you.”
“You want me to kill everyone who gives me a dirty look?” I snapped. “No.” For a second, his gaze softened. “I want you to tell me when it happens so I can do that.”
“You are my heart and my soul, or whatever black pit sits in my chest.”
“I need you to know, Avery… it was worth it. You own my soul. You’re etched on every part of me. And if I only had you for a moment, then it was the only moment worth having in my entire lonely existence.”
