“Which one are you more attracted to? Clay me that doesn’t make you laugh or real me that’ll do anything to see you smile?” He stands up still smiling and walks in front of me. “You are an insanely talented artist, Charlie.”

“Ready to go watch some grown men chase a rubber disk on knife boots?” He laughs.

“You’re so perfect. Do you know that?” He kisses me between each of his next words. “Every.” kiss “Single.” kiss “Inch.” kiss “Of.” kiss “You.” kiss

My heart is beating loudly in my ears but it’s not from panic this time. No, it’s because I’m trying not to cry and ruin this moment. He’s so gentle as he brushes his lips over each scar.

I bring my lips to his forehead and hold them there for a minute. I could have lost him yesterday. I would never hear his voice again. Never hold him in my arms or watch him get lost in an art project. Never hear his elusive laugh that also brings out his adorable dimples. I would never get to see those beautiful golden-brown eyes I’ve fallen in love with. The thoughts have tears silently rolling down my cheeks. Leaning back, I lay my head on my pillow and watch him sleep while his favorite Avatar movie plays in the background. I move the hair that’s fallen over his face and softly stroke over his sharp cheekbone. “My beautiful broken boy. You are the brightest star in the sky of a million stars and I promise to do everything I can to keep your light shining. Always.”
