“Might I remind you, Miss Sanchez, that you’re the one who asked for the opportunity to—” Adrien cut off, his gaze slicing down to something on the floor behind me. I twisted my neck to find Toebeans sneaking up to us, his attention locked cautiously on the potential new threat. Adrien’s dark eyes narrowed as they slid back to my face. “You have a cat?” I let my head slant to the side. “Do I?” “He’s very fat.” Excuse me? “And you blink like a lizard. What’s your point?”
Adrien did another one of his slow lizard blinks, trying to figure out what the fuck I was rambling about.
Also, it didn’t matter how hot they steamed the milk. It wasn’t going to offset the little ice cubes I was sneaking into his drink from my own iced coffee.
“This might honestly be the stupidest fucking argument I’ve ever had with another person. And one time I argued with a six-year-old for over two hours about what type of peanut butter is best.” “Organic and low-fat, obviously.” I was horrified. “Literally everything about you makes me want to throw up.”
“Which part angers you, exactly? Is it my mediocre mouth or my lopsided dimples?” “Both. And your eyes are weird.” He snorted.
“I’m just trying to understand where the cinnamon roll thing comes into… play,” he went on, leaning in a little more. “Do they feed it to you? Eat it off you? Do they unravel it and then try to tie you up with it?”
We collided like two dying stars, our mouths crashing into each other with hungry desperation as everything exploded.
“I like looking at you. So much so that I actually hate it. You’re very pretty. It’s beyond outrageous.”
“So you admit you’re attracted to me.” “Believe me, no one is as disappointed in me as I am,” I said gravely.
When had he gone from Man I’d Like To Choke, to Man Whose Dick I’d Like To Choke On?
“God, you’re beautiful,” he murmured, leaning down to suckle on my bottom lip. “How is it fair? How was I supposed to stand a chance?”
Another unknown kink of mine unlocked. It was like a video game.
“I told you I have a fake fear of clowns. This is incredibly triggering for me,” he said.
“What's your safeword, pretty girl?”
Like his good girl. His pretty girl.
“I’ve never seen him laugh with anyone the way he does with you.”
“Hello, Ariana,” a very unimpressed Jamie greeted me, looking like a cartoon villain with the way she was holding a glaring, purring Toebeans against her chest. “Fancy seeing you here, alive and not dead.”
“You can yell at me in the car while I force-feed you fries.” “Oh,” I said. And then, “All right.” It wasn’t the worst idea he’d ever had.
“Beg, Mr. Cloutier,”
