Tem had chosen Caspen. But it wasn’t because she didn’t love Leo. It was because she wanted more for Leo. And in doing so, she had accepted less for herself.
Leo was not hers anymore. Not only did he belong to someone else, but Tem herself had told him to go. She didn’t feel as though she was allowed to miss him when she was the one who had sent him away in the first place.
“It does not matter what you did wrong, Temperance. It is how you choose to fix it that defines who you are.”
“Men are curious creatures, Temperance. They are petty, and they are stupid.” Tem snorted. “It is true, is it not?” “It’s completely true.”
“How can you always think the best of me?” “Because you are the best of me,” he said simply.
She would not let him sit in his privilege and pretend that his actions did not affect others.
it was delusional. But delusional was better than nothing.
But men were funny creatures, and as Adelaide had said, they were stupid.
Lying is a sin, Temperance. Don’t talk to me about sins. Would you rather I perform them instead? The answer was yes, of course.
Basilisks, with all their life experience, were somehow never prepared for Gabriel.
