“Tem,” he said. “My brother. Apollo.”
Apollo leaned in, his mouth curling into a smile. “Do you like it when I beg?” Tem shot him a look of utter disdain. “Only if it’s for your life.”
A carriage arrived to take them to the castle, as always. Caspen’s hand was on her knee the entire time. He’d been holding her close the past few days: hunting less, listening more. Tem wondered why. Was it because he sensed the distance between them and wished to prevent it? Or was it because of what he’d told her—that she was powerful—and he wanted to keep that power close? Either way, Tem liked it. She felt more connected to him than she had in days.
“Should you ever tire of resisting,” he murmured against her skin, “I am at your disposal.”
There was only one thing on her mind. “I miss you,” she whispered. “I am right here.” But that was barely true. Physically, he was right in front of her. But in reality, he may as well have been a thousand miles away. It was torture not to touch him—torture to see what she couldn’t have. It was the exact same feeling she had every Sunday night when she watched Leo with Evelyn.
They had shared so many kisses before, but this one was different. This one felt like coming home.
