The opening sequence was filmed at Munich airport one hot summer’s day and is comprised of eight shots of eight different aeroplanes landing one after the other, starting early in the morning. The hotter the air became, the more the heat shimmered and distorted the images. Eventually something visionary sets in – like fever dreams – and it remains for the rest of the film. The more aeroplanes that land, the stronger the sense of unreality.
