That smile feels like the eighth wonder of the world. The stupid, selfish part of me wishes she’d direct it my way, but she’s always favored animals over humans. Everything over me.
“If there’s a creature out there worse than a human, I’ve yet to be convinced.”
“Now.” Turning, he faces the corpse. “One of the most important things I will ever teach you,” he says in a low, steady voice, like he’s been waiting for this exact moment, which I find fucking weird, “is how to properly clean up your messes.”
Is that the kind of thing she’s into? Extreme jealousy and overprotection? Have I not been doing enough?
“Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.”
I think I’m in love with you. My brain screams those seven words, desperate to push them from my lips and into hers.
“Hello?” Foxe stands up, waving a hand in front of my face. “Can you focus on me for five seconds?” “You asked a fucking question.” “And then you immediately floated off on some Lulu-induced cloud, I’m sure.” He huffs, perching on the edge of the table. “You’re being extra needy today.” “I’m but a simple goldfish,” he croons, flipping his hair out of his face. “If you don’t pay enough attention to me, I’ll die.”
“Okay, Daddy—” Spinning, he pushes me against the wall once more, this time hooking his hands under my ass and lifting me into his arms. His kisses make me dizzy, and when he glides along my jaw, tugging on the piercing in my earlobe before swooping to bite just beneath it, I cry out, heat scoring a path up my stomach. “You start calling me Daddy, I’m going to ensure you make me one.”
I grin. “Baby, I’ve loved you my entire life. Seems like you have some catching up to do.” “Okay, quit trying to make us grandparents, and get the hell over here,” Alistair snaps.
