Clarity degenerated into selective nuance and misdirected boldness, compassion degenerated into untethered empathy, kindness degenerated into winsome coddling, and a desire for a good reputation degenerated into man-pleasing and man-fearing. Candor and honesty were smothered beneath the progressive gaze.
