Call of the Camino

I have no more business setting out on a five-hundred-mile trek across Spain than a penguin.

“The cross” is Cruz de Ferro, an iron cross on a tall wood post that marks the highest point on the Camino. It’s where a lot of pilgrims make offerings and lay down their burdens.

After so many days of walking in the quiet of the Meseta, the noisy bustle of León was a shock to the system.

The Camino is so simple. Difficult but easy. Each day starts with promise and ends with satisfaction and a deep sense of fulfillment.

Martin Sheen and the movie The Way, written by Sheen’s son Emilio Estevez, are the reason many people embark on the Camino.
