“No, see, this is why October is the best month.” I shake my head. “Nothing beats the autumn weather, and from October on, you have Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas to look forward to. It’s like the Friday of months.”
These are people who choose to wake up and do something with their day, even if it is just walking, and that’s admirable. I didn’t realize I was homesick for a place that I refused to think of as home.
For me, the idea of two people choosing to go through life side by side, to become one half of a whole, knowing one day you’ll lose them…is brave.
“Perry is home,” Adam says intently, and it knocks the wind out of me. “And I’ve always been most comfortable with you. Maybe I thought you’d feel the same way.”

“I was scared that if I got close to you again…” My voice cracks. “I wouldn’t be strong enough to leave this time.”
“Are you still scared?” “Terrified.” I look up at him.
There’s a receipt wedged in between the pages being used as a bookmark. She had only about forty pages left. Audrey never got to the plot twist, and right now, I wish more than anything I had told her what it was. But I guess life gives us twists of our own…and it doesn’t wait until we get to the end.
