The death of Jesus is not an isolated act but part of an entire way of being in the world. The new covenant is not merely an end in itself, but part of a larger divine plan, which is why the new-covenant community is inherently a missional community, with justice and reconciliation integral to its identity. Moreover, as we have indicated at various points, shalom means peace or reconciliation, but also wholeness, and it includes justice.
