To those fearful of falling—in love or otherwise— you are braver than you know
A man flashes in Death’s mind. His golden hair is disheveled above a pair of wild, green eyes. He is arguing, agitated, though his words are muffled.
“In a sense. I am searching the shadows for myself.”
“Is it not the darkest parts of ourselves that ultimately make us who we are?”
Water too cold, it burns. Fire too large, it consumes. Love too grand, it kills. That is what Kitt Azer feels like. An enticing devastation.
“To living with you, Mara.” I lift the coin between us. She drips before me, gaze unwavering. “To accompanying you in death, Kitt.”
“In fact,” he says slowly, “I would have believed you were a deity, if only you said so. I wouldn’t have questioned worshiping something so divine.”
Surely, this is the case for Death and a certain soul who warms her cold heart.
