Moravec’s argument, therefore, cannot give us “great confidence” that we can achieve human-level artificial intelligence “in short order.” At best, the evolution of intelligent life places an upper bound on the intrinsic difficulty of designing intelligence. But this upper bound could be quite far above current human engineering capabilities.
