A look of concern flashes across Dad’s face. “What?” I shrug. “He’s a rotten, terrible, stupid boy.” “I know, but just because he’s terrible doesn’t mean you need to be.”
No, don’t tell her that. Tell her it’s a good thought but an inside thought, or time to prep for the asswhooping you’re going to give him, or go talk to the school because this is the type of behavior that leads to worse behavior later in life… this is already opening with a “boys will be boys” attitude… which is unfortunate.
And, absolutely, if he’s terrible you need to be too. Be ready for that attack because it’s probably coming. This dismissive behavior by her father is how she ends up a victim in real life.
The other girls at school think he’s hot because his eyes are the color of summertime grass, but I think they look more like vomit.
She said she’d be 18 in 5 years, so this FMC is 13… wft to the author? Girls do not have sexual thoughts at 13 in 2009, that is only 7th grade! 7th grade?!? This author is not only attributing sexual behavior to literal CHILDREN, she is also talking about a 13 year old boy as “hot”!
This chapter is awful, there are so many better ways to have setup the bullying that happens to this FMC, a prepubescent child by prepubescent children, without normalizing abusive behavior as a “crush” and then objectifying a child as “hot”. Just disgusting.
