This thoughtful, deliberate training is accomplished in the context of relationships, not mere automation. The training is not fashioned in conduct in the realm of the external, but as the cultivation of internal relationships with self, God, others, and the world, resulting in both character and conduct. In relationship the parent/teacher is able to be the initiator of the thoughts the child should think upon, the desires he cherishes, and the feelings he allows.
