The Nature Conservancy’s job has been to identify habitat preservation and conservation projects to “offset the impacts of oil and gas drilling pads and infrastructure.” From a climate change perspective, this is an absurd proposition, since these projects have no hope of offsetting the most damaging impact of all: the release of heat-trapping gases into the atmosphere.
