For those of you thinking, “There’s no way someone could write a fantasy romance without a fantasy plot.” I love your enthusiasm—but you need to lower your expectations.
Do not take this book too seriously. It was written to be a fun read with a bit of “that’s fucked up” thrown into the mix. You might have a good time. You might not. Good luck.
No one had explained the dangers of falling in love—infinitely more dangerous than falling from a tree. When you fall in love and the other person doesn’t catch you, you break more than a bone when hitting the ground. You break everything. Your heart. Your soul. Your confidence in yourself. It all just shatters.
She picked up her head and looked to the gods. “I won’t change.” The words came out nasally from crying. “One day I’ll be enough as I am, whether you think so or not.”
“That man doesn’t have a partner,” she taunted, referring to a gentleman standing to the side. “If you could be a dear and put me down so I can ask him to da—ow!” Roman slapped her on the ass, hard. “Be a good girl and stop trying to get other men killed.”
“Lunch with Finn?” He thrust Eddy into Amelia’s arms and stalked off, throwing over his shoulder to Violet, “Never mind. I’ll take care of it.” Amelia sighed. “I’m sorry. Was he terribly rude?” Violet stared after the king, suddenly concerned for Finn. Were all the kings insane? Amos, the Desert King, was the only one she’d yet to meet, but so far, the unstable king count was three for three. “Uh. Actually, you might want to go after him. I think he’s going to kill Finn.” Amelia swore colorfully and muttered, “Not again,” before taking off after her mate.
“Climb backwards out of the carriage and I’ll jump into your arms. My dress will cover your pants, then you can change in our room.” The mischievous glint reappeared in Roman’s eyes. “No. I think I’ll let them see.” “Roman Covington, I swear to the gods,” she whisper-yelled. He winked and opened the carriage door. It would sadden her to lose him now that she had him as her own, but it couldn’t be avoided because she was going to kill him.
Violet wondered how hot hell was because it would surely be her eternal resting place for the thrill that ran through her at Roman’s declaration.
“You’re unethical and insane, but I love you.”
Sarah reached over and patted her arm. “Let him protect you in the only way he knows how.” Violet balked. “The only way he knows how is murder.” Sarah lifted a shoulder. “So be it.” “It’s no use,” Felix explained on a sigh. “They’re just alike.”
