“Do you always do that?” he asks. I tilt my head. “Do what?” “Ignore your own demons to cater to everyone else’s? From what I’ve witnessed, you seem to run after those around you, be there for them, centre yourself in their trauma, and no one seems to do the same for you.”
I was in love with Kade Mitchell, and now he’s going to kill me.
Barry crouches down to Cassie’s corpse and checks her pulse. “She’s dead.” Tobias frowns like a child just kicked his shin. “Of course she’s dead. Are your eyes working? Her brain is splattered on the ground, you fucking idiot.”
It’s more than just a kiss. It’s everything he wants. Everything he had. And everything he’ll lose. It’s a goodbye. A see you later. An eternity of wondering what if.
Where does one go when they pass? Their memories stay with us, their lifeless bodies waiting to be buried or cremated. But what truly happens? Do they become stars? Are they ghosts who stand by our sides when we need them the most? Are psychics legit, and do the dead communicate during readings? When we get a shiver up our spines and the hairs rise on our arms, is there someone with us?
“You can go as far as you want. You’re in control of this, Kade. I’m yours,” she says, and her eyes drop to my mouth. “And you’re mine.”
My name is Kade Mitchell, son of Tobias Mitchell, and I will not be fucking silent anymore.”
“That’s it. The blood flowing to your head is reducing,” Kade says, pulling a small blade from his pocket and pressing the sharp edge to her cheek, cutting into the skin while Base chuckles. He grits against her ear, “Your brain is being starved of oxygen and nutrients. Isn’t it, Bernadette? Your skin is changing colour. Feel how we rob you of breath, of life.” He lets go of her hair and holds her nape, pushing her into Base’s hold. “Fucking die.”
“So beautiful, even when you cry, my Freckles. You’re amazing, do you know that? I was lucky to have you for even a short space of time. There aren’t any threats left. No Chris, no Bernadette. You can dance and sing and live.”
“We don’t have time to debate this. It’s done. You’re going to kiss me, then you’re going to go to your brother and go live your life. You’re going to dance. You’re going to fall asleep next to the dogs every night, and you’re going to be there for my sister and my niece or nephew. You’re going to live, Stacey. Fucking live for me.” “I can’t live without you.”
