“You are also my priority. I would have always hunted for you to the ends of the fucking earth, little one. I know you didn’t have the best relationship with your father, your brothers are useless pricks, and my son is shackled to a bitch on an insane power trip, but you have me.”
Can you keep your emotions in check until we get out of here?” “You told me to let it all out.” The slight tilt of his head shows his confusion. “There’s more?”
“Do we know where the stepbrothers are?” Tobias asks Barry. “Or are you still being an incompetent dickhead?” Barry narrows his eyes. “You’re not exactly doing much, are you? You’re too busy staring at your ex-wife.”

“If we really have lost my brother, I won’t let him hurt you, even if that means taking a bullet for you.”

I just needed to apologise. You don’t have to ever forgive me, but I want you to know that if I had all the time in the world, I would spend it trying to win you back. I’d prove myself worthy of you, Stacey. Because there hasn’t been a day that’s passed where you haven’t kept me going. My love might not be enough for you, but it’s all I have left. I love you. I love you so fucking much that I want to live.”

Barry crouches down to Cassie’s corpse and checks her pulse. “She’s dead.” Tobias frowns like a child just kicked his shin. “Of course she’s dead. Are your eyes working? Her brain is splattered on the ground, you fucking idiot.” Barry mutters to himself then looks up at Kade’s dad. “I was just stating a fact.” “A useless fact,” he counters. “Any others? You want to tell me the sky is blue while you’re at it?”
“I don’t give a fuck, Stacey. If you ever sneak away from me and risk getting yourself killed, I’ll kill you myself.” I narrow my eyes. “I’ll tell Lisa you’re threatening me.”
“Do you really need to keep hitting me? What are you getting out of being violent?”
“I won’t kill you,” he tells him in a bored tone. “I want you to live and know you can never see her beauty or touch her perfection. I want you to be helpless and unable to walk.” On the last word, he puts a bullet in Chris’s knee, and I close my eyes at the sound that comes from him.
In the nicest way possible, the girl is better off dead.
Barry looks around the room. “This is going to be horrible to clean up.” “What can I say? My son is an artist.” We all grimace. Tobias leans down and picks up the severed foot. “Think fast,” he says as he throws it at Barry’s face. He catches it automatically, then jumps back and drops it on the ground. “What the shit?”
“They want a war?” he says. “Well let’s give them one.”
“I hate who I am now. Because all I can think about is killing people.” She shifts but not out of discomfort. “Who do you want to kill?” “Everyone who’s ever wronged you, hurt you, touched you without your consent. I want to rip them all apart. I’d ruin myself to keep you safe.”
“I’m too busy to rest.” Correction: he needs to continue torturing Archie in the freezer.
“I need you too,” I add. “Even if I’m a bag full of trauma?”
I smile. “I have my own bag. We can swap when they get too heavy and we need a balance.”
“I want your heart, every single fucking fragment that I’ve broken over the years. I have your past and your present, and I want to be a selfish asshole and have your future.”
I have no idea why, but I smile. “I think the nails in his eyes were better. Your dad hit Barry with his foot.” He huffs out a laugh. “I knew they’d get along.”
I fold my arms, and he holds me up. “Why are you changing your mind? You were agreeing with me earlier.” “I was blinded by your pussy on my cock. I would have agreed to anything.” My eyes narrow. “That’s irresponsible.”
“You need to focus on yourself. Mr Mitchell has more than enough support. Help yourself. Love yourself. I want you to dance until you’re in tears from the overload of emotions. I want you to scream. Write down your thoughts. Always, always put yourself first going forward. Do you understand, Miss Rhodes?”
“Out of curiosity, since we haven’t broached the subject of anything since I got home, what the hell happened while I was gone?” For some reason, Lu and I burst out laughing. “Where do we even start?” I say as Lu says, “Just the usual family drama.”
Tylar shakes her head. “And Dez lives with his grandma. How come I landed the normal one?” We all break into laughter again.
you’re going to be my wife. You’ve already taken my heart, my body, and my butchered soul, so you’ll take my fucking last name too.”
“I’m going to kill you.” I frown, a groan trapped in my throat as she pumps me in her palm. “Why?” “You’re seriously asking me to marry you while your dick is in my mouth?” I blink, my voice a whisper. “Yeah?” She shakes her head but smiles. “You’re such an asshole.”
His future is balanced on a knife edge, and we have no idea if he’ll fall off the blade unscathed or be cut open for the world to see the colour of his soul.
There’s a bang on the wall beside us. “The partition between us is thin. Don’t you dare make me share a room with Barry.”
So domesticated. Like he hasn’t spent over twenty years locked up and unable to cook for himself. Now he’s boiling eggs and offering me a biscuit from a tub labelled “Do not touch”. I guess Barry stole his cookies. I have no idea why it makes me laugh, but it does, and Tobias looks at me like I have five heads.
Base scoffs. “Nuisance is an understatement. He fucking bullies me. Him and Barry. They don’t even like each other!”
