“You are also my priority. I would have always hunted for you to the ends of the fucking earth, little one. I know you didn’t have the best relationship with your father, your brothers are useless pricks, and my son is shackled to a bitch on an insane power trip, but you have me.”
“You did not need to pull my hair.” “I like pulling hair.” I roll my eyes. “Of course you do.”
“I don’t know what’s happening with you, but if you need to do this assignment for your freedom, I’m willing to let you do it. I…” Her voice breaks, and so does my heart. “I don’t have anything to live for, but you do.”
Stacey Rhodes. My girl. My anchor that sank to the bottom of the ocean without me.
“We have no future together, but you can have one. Love isn’t enough to fix us. Even your kind of love.”
“Kade!” Cassie yells. “Oh my God! I missed you so much! Tell them we’re getting married and to stop bullying me! Oh and get your filthy hands off him, you whore!” “Fuck off,” I mutter through the material covering my mouth. Stacey scowls, her hand clenching into a fist as if she’s going to punch her. And as much as I’d love to see it, I won’t put Stacey under any stress. Cassie comes running straight for us, but I roll my eyes and put a bullet in her skull before she can reach me.
“I love you. Every broken part of me has loved you from the moment I met you.”
“It was never going to be an easy road. At least now I can do something good for my family. Live your life the way you were supposed to without me, Doctor.”
I lean forward and rest my hand on top of Aria’s as she strokes her thumb over the top of Jason’s fingers. “I’m sorry,” I whisper. “I’m so sorry.” Killing yourself isn’t going to make it all go away. If you jump, then it might be done for you, but everyone who cares for you will suffer. Do you know why? Because you are loved, Stacey. Look at me. Please, Stacey. I lost everything, too.
Even if that means taking a bullet for you… Jason kept his promise.
Base will never stop being Base. Because dark humour is his thing when he’s mentally drowning.
