“Make them go away, Freckles.” “Make what go away?” I manage to ask. “The voices.”

The first hour drags in. It’s torture to watch. I know what it feels like to have your consent stripped away; to be used and fucked while you barely have a grip on reality. I know how it feels to want them to stop, to try to fight them off. I remember my own voice being like Stacey’s – haunting me as she wakes and pleads. Cries. Even trying to hit back before being tied to the bedpost.

“We have an emergency announcement. Reports say that Tobias Mitchell has escaped his institution this afternoon and is currently at large. The murderer and psychopath was given a life sentence over twenty years ago.” A picture of my father appears on the screen, and my lips part. They picked one that makes him look terrifying – his eyes burn through the screen. “I would like to stress to everyone that this individual is extremely dangerous and may not be in touch with reality. Do not approach him. If you have any information on his whereabouts, please contact your local station.”
