one of the three men who’d been the catalyst to me running away from Beaumont as fast as I had.
Logan Brooks.
“And a big day?” He raised his eyebrows. “Where’s the mister?” I was mortified. I hadn’t expected to be explaining my failures to one of the best men I ever knew on my first day back in town. I bit my lip and thought about lying but I’d never been good at lying. “I’m guessing balls deep in my boss right about now.” That wiped the smirk right off of Logan’s handsome face. He braced his hands on his hips and frowned. “Oh?” I forced my chin up. “Yep. I’m a runaway bride.”
“We’ve missed you around here. Everything’s a little bit boring without you.” He shifted closer and held a card out to me. “The guys had to move into my place after Hurricane Susan. Their places got wrecked. If you get an itch to run while you’re in town, call me.”
“Brooklyn Diane! I know you’re not really talking to God! You’re a heathen!”
I hadn’t seen them in almost a decade and the last time we really spent a lot of time together, we’d lost our minds and had sex? Oh, dear god, yes. I was also petrified that they hated me. They should. I’d freaked out after aforementioned sex and avoided them until I’d just split entirely.
“Except for the fact that I’m pretty sure Colt hates me and you and Logan have every right to, as well. How do I know you won’t try to set me up with a serial killer? Just take me right out.” Colt rolled his eyes. “Good to know you’re still dramatic as fuck.”
“Finn Love wore khakis sometimes. I don’t know, Colt. Maybe there aren’t any good guys left for me and I’ll just grow old all alone. That could be alright. I could get a couple dozen cats and maybe they’ll eat me when I die so no one will have to deal with my body.”
So if you’re here to do some tour of your feelings before scurrying back to the city to chase another man who will never feel for you even a percentage of what we felt for you, I’m not interested.”
“Noah!” Kelly elbowed me. “I popped your girlfriend’s cherry.” Noah’s gaze stayed on me. “Nope, That would’ve been Colt. Then me. And then Logan.”
Aunt Karlene put her finger to her head and made a sound like a poorly paid actor playing a ghost. “I’m getting a vision!” I groaned and leaned against Logan. “I can’t believe I willingly came back to this place.” “I see my niece! Married and knocked up!” “Which ones does she marry?” Boomer was way too invested in my life. “All three of them! I see it! She’ll marry all three of them and no one will ever judge because if they do a curse will fall upon their house! Especially you, Boomer Perry! And you, Karla!” Aunt Karlene slumped in her seat. “Wow. That was a big one. Anyone got a smoke?”
“Ignore her. She’s got no Venus in her Uranus this week and she’s bitchy because of it.”
