I do so love it when they scream. It’s the terror in their eyes that really feeds me—knowing that these men who have done horrible things finally know a smidge of what their victims have felt.
I’ve remained what you might call a romantic at … well, I don’t have a heart so I’m not sure where exactly. But it’s there. Somewhere.
“I think...” His humerus bone snaps under my shoe. “...that I don’t want a filthy creature like you...” His fingers crunch with ease in my hand. “...touching what belongs to me.”
Celine might not know she’s mine, but she will soon enough, and I don’t need human trash like this guy thinking they have a chance with a creature as ethereal as she is.
It makes me twitchy not having her nearby. Like I’ve lost something vital, and I’ll be the one bleeding out on the ground without it.
Once I see her, I’ll be able to breathe again. Hypothetically, speaking of course. I don’t actually need oxygen to survive.
“Such a good girl,” he croons,
I’ve spent enough centuries on this planet to have learned the art of patience, but I find with Celine Brennan it’s non-existent. Lust, intrigue, and obsession are driving my brain.
Within those beautiful eyes is a sadness and isolation I have to untangle. Whoever put that hurt in her will pay dearly one day.
I’m practically humping her like a dog, and I’d let her leash me any day.
“If I’m being honest with myself, if there is a God, then I don’t think I’d be let through the pearly gates. You know, for all the murdering and stuff … and the indecent way I think about Celine.”
I toss a few of the tiny fish shaped treats on the ground and he runs after them. “Blindsided by temptation.” Celine pops in my head and I lean against the counter. “I know the feeling.”
“You’re going to be the death of me.” A sigh leaves my body, and I deflate. “You’re already dead.”
“Whoever hurt you, just tell me and I’ll kill them.”
There’s an emotion reflected in his eyes I can’t place, but it makes butterflies awaken in my belly.
she sets her sights on Zavier who pushes his glasses back in place. God, he’s fucking hot.
“Lockwood. Zavier Lockwood. L-O-C-K-W-O-O-D. Why aren’t you writing this down? It’s going to be your last name one day, too.” His grin is downright wicked. I sputter incoherently.
“What’s wrong with vampires?” I gasp. “Immortal beings that either sparkle or burn in the sun? Pfft.” “Well, both are untrue ... so...” He can’t hear me over his laughter, not that I want him to, but I still feel the need to defend myself. Fucker.
I think I’ve cursed more in the last five minutes than I have in the last month. This is what he does to me. The smug bastard with his perfect face, adorable glasses, and kissable lips.
Where did he come from? It’s like this man dropped from the sky from some alien planet.
Did I sneak into her apartment to get a pep talk from my hype kitty? Absolutely. Midnight is my best friend.
Her tiny body fits perfectly, dwarfed by mine, and the urge to protect her from everything bad in the world rides me hard.
Her smile undoes me. If I wasn’t a sucker for her before, I am now.
I can deny my feelings, my attraction, all I want but the truth is I’m drawn to this man in a way I’ve never been to another person.
A man who whimpers and moans for his woman is such a turn on.
It’s taken me years of practice to control my thirst, but Celine’s blood calls to me like no other.
A growl sounds in my throat. “Unless you want me to cover your neck in my marks and spank your ass raw, you’ll sit still.”
Nobody fucks with my girl and gets away with it.
“A vampire,” I reply in a deadpan voice. He nods. “I vant to suck your blood ... kind of vampire?” Zav rolls his eyes at that one.
I don’t know what it says about me that all my inhibitions go away when I’m around this man. Vampire or not he’s a safe space, and I’d be dumb not to admit it.
“Bite me,” I murmur.
You are the most stunning, intelligent, kind creature I’ve ever crossed paths with, and I worship the ground you walk on.”
She probably doesn’t realize it, but there will never come a time when I tire of her. She is the single, most important thing, in my immortal life.
if I had my way your ass would be over my shoulder, and I’d lock you in my bedroom until I convinced your mind and body exactly who you belong to.”
“I’m so fucking hungry, baby. You have no idea.”
A guy in sweatpants is unrivaled.
Later, maybe I’ll have the sanity to be horrified by how much his fangs turn me on, but now’s not the time to question my mental well-being.
“I’m getting forever, love.”
You are … you’re my soul. Without you there would be nothing left of me.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll love you enough to make up for every time you felt unloved.”
