“Explain yourself,” he growls, and I understand how dangerous this is. But his scent surrounds me and he smells so damn good, like fresh mountain air. Only fuckboys smell like this.
He meets my eyes. “I feel like I know you. I can look at you and know exactly what you’re thinking. And I shouldn’t.” “No, you can’t,” I say, but I wonder if he can. He closes the menu. “You feel the invisible tug. I know you do. It’s written on your face.”
“I’m glad I found you,” I say to her, looking forward to the day when we’re no longer strangers. It’s easy to imagine a whole life with her. “You say it like I was lost.” “You were.”
He tastes like spearmint and smells like fresh mountain air. It shouldn’t feel like this. It shouldn’t feel like home. It shouldn’t feel like I want to do this again and again and again. But it does.
Overpowering emotions streamed between us, and I swear she cast a spell on me.
Just as she’s about to say something, a man walks up. He mutters something to her and she stills beside me. “Actually, no, I don’t think my boyfriend would appreciate that very much,” Autumn says, moving closer to me. Leaning forward, I meet his gaze. It’s like he didn’t see me. “Yeah, and I don’t share.”
“For thirteen years, I’ve dreamed about a man who looks and sounds like you.” She pauses. “Okay, this is where you’re supposed to find it adorable. You promised.”
“Imagine how I feel,” she says. “You’re a figment of my imagination; every time I’m with you, it feels like I’m losing it.” I laugh. “I’m literally the man of your dreams?” She sucks in a deep breath and whispers, “He said he’d find me. So, seeing you . .
“Tell me your secret,” she says. I lick my lips and glance down at hers. Then I lean in and whisper in her ear, “Kissing you felt like magic.”
“I’m afraid of growing attached then having to navigate a world without knowing you.”
maybe we could fill the cracks of our hearts with the sunshine the other brings.
“If I didn’t care about you, I’d fuck you right now.” She laughs. “It’s fine. I’m used to rejection.” “You’re not fling material. You’re the type of woman that men want forever with.” “Even you?” “Even me.” I’m not afraid to admit it. She deserves that at least.
“Falling in love with me wouldn’t be the worst thing to happen to you, would it?” “No. Losing you would,”
“You don’t want me?” I ask. “I’m scared I won’t let you go,” he admits.
Then I carefully slide my hand down my stomach, making sure I don’t touch him, as I slip my fingers between my legs. I’m soaked and so damn horny that I have to do this, knowing he’s right here, in the flesh. My eyes flutter closed as I slowly rub circles on my needy clit. My heart rate increases as I dip a finger inside, wishing it were him. Imagining it’s him.
Just as I’m falling asleep, I think I hear him mutter, “My good fucking girl.”
“Wait, she really believes we’re getting married? Is she psychic or something?” “Clairvoyant is the official term. I’ve seen it in action. The things she has predicted in my life are creepy.” “Like what?” “Meeting you.” A chill runs over my arms. “Right down to the detail of me forcing you to be my friend.” “What?” I study him. “What else happens?” He smiles and shrugs. “I can’t tell you. Unfortunately, you’ll have to get your own prediction from her. It’s just how it works.” I take a step forward and he places his hand against the small of my back. My face softens. “Do we end up together?”

“Do you think Harper is right?” I ask as the gate slides open. “I don’t know.” He glances over at me. “I just want your friendship. Nothing else. No expectations. Just me and you getting to know one another. Being each other’s plus-one to the holiday stuff and having fun,”
“Bottom line is, I want you to do what makes you happy because that’s what matters most.”
“The man you had us put a love spell on. Alex?” My face burns red. “Actually, yes. It’s a pleasure to meet you,” Zane says, holding out his hand toward her. She gently takes it and he gives her a smile. “Honey, he’s cute. Total boyfriend material. I can’t wait to tell your mama about him later tonight at our little shindig,” she says. “Mrs. Mooney,” I say as my entire body catches on fire with embarrassment.
“We can explain we’re just friends,” I offer. “No lies.” “After that photo was posted in the town group, no one will believe it, especially not my parents. I haven’t dated anyone since Sebastian. I’m never caught kissing someone in public.” She meets my eyes. “They’ll think you’re my forever person.”
She turns to Autumn. “How’d you and Mr. Dreamy meet?” I chuckle and Autumn nearly chokes. “Mom.” “You told him, didn’t you?” “Yes, I know about him.” I glance at her. “I walked into the coffee shop and Autumn took my breath away. Then I lied and said the coffee she made tasted like shit.”
I smirk, and soon after, the kettle whistles. Diane pours tea into our cups and offers sugar cubes. Her mom looks between us and laughs. “When are you two getting married?” “Please,” Autumn whispers. “We’re trying each other on. That’s it. Don’t rush us.” “I predict we’ll be married within a year,” I say, and Autumn’s cheeks heat. “If you allow it, of course.”
I crave him like I crave cooler weather, bonfires, and crunchy leaves. I need him at the core of my essence, burying himself deep inside me.
He peppers kisses along my inner thighs then towers over me, shirtless, with a monster cock tight in his pants. Zane slides open the drawer and pulls out a foil wrapper. I shake my head, pushing up onto my elbows to get a better view of him as he removes his belt and undresses. “Nothing between us. I’m on birth control.”
“You agreed to be mine through the holidays if you could have all of me.” He glances down at it. “Now you do, Pumpkin. You have me physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially.” “This is not what I meant.” I tap the metal card against my fingers, wishing he would take it back, but he’s stubborn. “Time is one of your most valuable commodities. I don’t want you to worry about anything while we’re together. Focus on the good, and on the things that make you happy. Money won’t.” I stare at it, feeling a cyclone of emotions, not knowing how to respond. “You’re fucking adorable.” He bursts

“And what if all I want is you?” I finally say. He pulls away, meeting my eyes. “You have me.”
“I’m not going anywhere, Pumpkin.” “Is that a promise?” I ask, turning my head enough to meet his soft eyes. “One I’ll keep for a lifetime,” he whispers.
“You’re scared,” she says. “But you’ll say yes and it will be the greatest thing that’s ever happened to you. You’re his queen, the only woman who can sit beside him, not only as his wife, but as his equal. You’ve been waiting for confirmation that he’s the man in your dreams. He is and always has been. Twin flames. Mirrored souls.”
“So who is she? The woman you’re in love with.” I think about Autumn and smile. Billie’s eyes widen. “Shit. You just had the look. You’re going to marry this woman.”
“This is my girlfriend,” Zane offers, softly. His eyes sparkle when he glances at me. “They’re getting married,” Weston says. “Congratulations,” Easton happily adds. “It’s not official yet,” Zane tells him, but doesn’t deny it. “Soon.”
“I don’t want this to end, Autumn. Not in January. I do want to make you my wife. To take the risk. I want the whole goddamn world to know you’re mine, and more than anything, I want to take care of you and go on adventures with you. I’m already bound to you, somehow. And I don’t understand it at all, but in my heart, it’s you. It will only ever be you.”
But he’s mistaken with his marriage bullshit because I’d marry you tomorrow.” “Then do it.” “Wait.” The mood shifts. “You’d marry me tomorrow?” He tilts his head, watching me. “We’re already in too deep. What’s the difference between tomorrow and next year? You’re convinced this is happening. Why not now?” I shrug, but I’m smiling.
“You really don’t care about money.” “Some call it irresponsible. But every day, I make millions off of the interest alone by doing absolutely nothing. If I gave away a hundred thousand dollars a day, I’d barely notice. So I try, knowing that one act of kindness could completely change someone’s outlook on life.”
