“You feel the invisible tug. I know you do. It’s written on your face.”
“No ghosts, unless I can count the thoughts of you. Also, I think my name is on your calendar for eternity.” He clears his throat and lowers his voice. “Anyway, I hope you have an incredible day. I’ll see you soon. Oh, also, if you want to keep calling me Alex, you can. However, I love it when you say my name, too.”
It shouldn’t feel like this. It shouldn’t feel like home. It shouldn’t feel like I want to do this again and again and again. But it does.
Overpowering emotions streamed between us, and I swear she cast a spell on me.
“I’m afraid of growing attached then having to navigate a world without knowing you.”
She nods. “If you’re one of those guys whose dick doesn’t work when you drink, I get it.” I scoff. “I’d fucking break you.” “Hm. Guess we’ll never know.” Her gaze slides down to my bulging cock. I give her a smirk, catching her as she gulps. “Actually, I retract that statement,” she says. “Oh, I know.”
“Falling in love with me wouldn’t be the worst thing to happen to you, would it?” “No. Losing you would,”
Just as I’m falling asleep, I think I hear him mutter, “My good fucking girl.”
“What if I want a new car?” He nibbles on my earlobe. “We’ll shop for one tomorrow.” “A new wardrobe?” I whisper, wrapping my hand against the back of his neck. “I’ll call my personal tailor.” “A house?” I mutter. “I know a few builders.” His hot breath is on my skin. “And what if all I want is you?” I finally say. He pulls away, meeting my eyes. “You have me.”
“I’m not going anywhere, Pumpkin.” “Is that a promise?” I ask, turning my head enough to meet his soft eyes. “One I’ll keep for a lifetime,” he whispers.
“She was one step away from shitting on my pillow and blaming it on her dogs,” I explain.
“But you’ll say yes and it will be the greatest thing that’s ever happened to you. You’re his queen, the only woman who can sit beside him, not only as his wife, but as his equal. You’ve been waiting for confirmation that he’s the man in your dreams. He is and always has been. Twin flames. Mirrored souls.”
I pull my orange handkerchief with a pumpkin embroidered in the corner from my pocket. Autumn laughs when she sees “for my pumpkin” beside it. “Prepared.” “Always.” I shoot her a wink.
Kiss each other good night every single night. Tomorrow isn’t promised. Never go to bed angry. I don’t care what happened. Laugh until your stomach hurts. It’s healthy for the soul. Say I love you as much as you can. One day, you might not be able to. Take a ridiculous number of pictures together. It’s the only way to turn back time. Be each other’s best friend. Because together, you can conquer anything. Share secrets and communicate. And never repeat what’s said. Forgive easily. Sometimes, it’s the only way to move forward. Love one another without barriers. Because then it’s limitless.
