“So you’re only faithful to me after I leave?” I asked incredulously. “That makes a lot of fucking sense.”
I would die for you. I would let my body be pumped with a hundred bullets before you got a single scratch. I would slice my own fucking throat to spare you any discomfort.” His eyes shifted back and forth between mine. “You understand me?”
I want something more than a week or a month or a year. Maybe forever. Don’t forget you aren’t the only one who’s got a heart on the line. Don’t forget you aren’t the only one who’s risking something. I’ve never done this before, but I know I want to do it with you. Those are my terms. So, if any of that is disagreeable to you, then get out now and don’t waste my fucking time.”
I could read people so well no one ever wanted to play poker with me because I cleaned house every single time, and right now, I could read her sincerity like words rather than emotions.
She wore her heart on her sleeve and didn’t try to hide her hand from me.
“I like that you’re real. No bullshit. No games. Straight to the point—like me.”
“Boys impress girls with nice dinners. Men impress women by making them come.
“First rule of business, if you’re good at something, never do it for free.”
“You had Fleur and the business, and you still fucked around. You’re one of those assholes who’s never happy with what he has. Everything could be fucking perfect, and you’d still find something to bitch about. You’ll cheat on your next girl and then the next one—”

“I said you can ask me anything, sweetheart. Pick a chapter, and I’ll flip to the page.”
“Trust takes months to earn among friends, years among strangers. It takes nothing among brothers. Don’t ever forget that.”
it was a relationship that had already been burned at the stake. Ashes couldn’t harden back into bones. We would never rebuild what we’d lost, and we both knew it.
“Empathy doesn’t make you weak. It makes you honorable, something you would never understand.”
You say he’s put all his chips in, but he’s not the one who has anything to lose.
“Quick reflexes won’t keep you alive, not when you have to react to something without notice. It’s intuition that saves your skin, detecting the threat before it’s fully formed. And I know you well enough now to feel your changes in mood as they happen. So, what is it?”
there’s no fucking way that a woman who looks like you could possibly question her worthiness otherwise. Why would I want a woman ten years younger than me when I can have you? A woman who’s intelligent, experienced, speaks her mind, whose sass hits harder than a goddamn bullet.” He grabbed me by the throat like he was about to slam me to the floor. “You’re. Fucking. Crazy.”
“You sound so busy, I don’t know how you have time for me.” “I don’t have time for you,” he said. “I make time for you.”
“You’re my priority, and it’s my job to make you feel like a priority.”
