Reining in my more destructive instincts, I reach for the bell.
“Don’t sell yourself short, my lady.” A lazy grin pulls at his full lips. “You threw four daggers at my face.”
tone. “Dearest Reaper, won’t you please promptly vacate the vicinity? Or in other words, fuck off.”
Thorne waves his hand as he sits down. “I truly don’t have time to explain everything I know that you don’t.”
“I’m sure someone such as your wraith could truly accomplish anything if properly motivated. You are lucky to have such an angel by your side.”
“Thanking you?” I laugh. “I’d sooner throw another dagger at you.” His eyes turn heated. “I don’t think that would have your intended effect, Angel.”
“Oh please, continue.” His tongue darts across his bottom lip, drawing my gaze. “How would you ruin me, Angel?”
But then he opens his mouth to speak again, and my annoyance comes flooding back.
“For such a beautiful angel, your hobbies veer toward the demonic.”
“She’s a fine illusion,” he concedes. “But I prefer the original over the imitation.”
“Make sure she gets home safe,” Thorne orders, before leaning closer and lowering his voice. “And keep your fucking hands to yourself.”
“Call her ‘pet’ one more time, and it will be the last word you ever speak,” Thorne warns, his voice barely above a whisper.

“Instead, you were collapsed on the ground, pretty fucking visible.”
“The second time we met, you were hacking a man into pieces while he was trying to take a piss behind a bar.”
