And that, he says, is the most important part of Scrum: it changes the culture people work in, which can be scary for some. Indeed, the company had to get rid of employees who couldn’t make the switch, he says—not because they were incompetent, but because they were hoarding information and knowledge for their own benefit, to ensure their own indispensability rather than helping the team and the company. Changing that culture, though, is what allows true excellence to emerge.
