“Because I’ve learned that you can’t live on grief,” I said. “It’s poison. It festers into bitterness and hatred. If you have nothing else to offer a heart, grief will just hollow it out until that’s all that you are. A dangerous thing for a god, no?”
The greatest gift we can offer is a life that serves those who come after us, and the greatest gift we can be given in return is a death with dignity.
There was always someone who could be saved. And there was always a reason to have faith.
But it also reminded me of an older version of myself. How many times had I said that anyone could be saved? That anyone could choose a better path forward, no matter how dark their past was?
