Originally called Samasource, it was a San Francisco–based social enterprise that had begun in 2008 with a mission of providing meaningful, dignified work to people in impoverished countries to lift them out of poverty. Under its founder, Leila Janah, it had established operations in India and Kenya and developed a reputation as an ethical outsourcing company.
