The Old Man and the Sea

I must get him alongside this time, he thought. I am not good for many more turns. Yes you are, he told himself. You're good for ever.

The old man's head was clear and good now and he was full of resolution but he had little hope. It was too good to last, he thought.

"But man is not made for defeat," he said. "A man can be destroyed but not defeated."

Now is no time to think of what you do not have. Think of what you can do with what there is.
