She laughs. A bright burst that slams out of her body. She laughs like she’s made to do exactly that, and it’s enough to have me teetering on the edge of indecision.
I drag my thumb over her knuckles, our hands still locked together between us. I wish she weren’t wearing my mittens. I want to feel her skin.
“How should I get in contact with you, then? If I need you?” His boots scuff against the floor and in the dark, I feel something lightly touch my wrist. “Been needing me?”
I want to hold her hand so bad my bones ache with it. Would she let me hold her hand?
“Do not mistake me for a good man. I am not here out of some misplaced sense of honor or duty. I demand your attention and I desire your affection.”
“I got you a present,” he tells me, his voice low. “Do you want to see it?” I snicker. “Why does it sound like you’re about to open your pants?” “That’s not what I’m talking about.” He pauses. “Though, good to know. For later.”
I sniffle. “Haunting me?” “No.” He smiles. “Loving you.”
