“I like it when you say my name,” he said.
“That’s up to you.” He shrugged. “I just know that, if I was in his shoes, I’d want to be given the opportunity to get to know you.”
Noah frowned. “Isobel, I don’t care about any of that stuff. I like you.”
I’m a little torn about this, not just this line but this whole conversation… why does my stomach say it’s way too soon to be throwing out these words. I feel like Noah and Isobel have had barely any interactions up until this point. It’s not about how many times you meet each other in each chapter, it’s the quality of those interactions.
Every time we’ve had Noah and Isobel in a scene together I feel like they’re so, so super short and not enough for the butterflies to kick in. Maybe a few dialogue exchanged, a touch here and there. And for how mysterious Noah was in the beginning, to this version of him I really can’t make the connection on how we got to this point.
I see the most quality interactions so far with Isobel and anyone else besides Noah thus far.
“Not tonight, you don’t.” “I know, but I also don’t want Veronica to win. And if I bail on our study session, it feels like she has, you know?” “Okay, got it.” He nodded. “How about we just take a break instead? I’ll go grab us coffees so we’re adequately juiced to finish off these problems.”
No I’m actually dead serious right now.. be with me instead Wes 🥹 CLEARY Sarah doesn’t appreciate what she has.
“Just because you had a different upbringing than everyone else here, it doesn’t mean you don’t belong,” he said. “If anything, it might make you more worthy than all the kids here who don’t appreciate what they’ve got. I wish you would have been open with me, but maybe if we’d gotten to know each other better, you would have realized where you come from doesn’t matter to me. I guess this is why we need our date on Saturday. So we can both learn to trust each other.”
Noah gently helped me from the car and positioned me so I was facing in a certain direction. He slowly pulled the blindfold from my eyes. “Okay, you can look…” I blinked my eyes open and gasped. The scene before me was achingly familiar. Tears started to gather in my eyes when I saw the faded blue-and-white-striped awning and the old Beach Street Café sign. I thought my heart might explode with the frenzy of emotions that wanted to burst from me as I realized where I was. Noah had brought me home. “I heard the pecan pie is really good here,” he murmured. I could barely form words to respond. I

No way… WHAT. Boy.. are you like going to propose to me tomorrow?
Genuinely confused, what exactly was the climax? I missed 6 chapters or something here. What has happened up till this point? I swear from the start of the book we’d only been at this school for 2 weeks how is Noah already doing leaps and bounds for Isobel.
“Are you sure about this?” he said as I drew close. “Don’t kiss me again unless you’re all in. You’re not the only one who doesn’t want to get hurt…”
????? This isn’t what I was imagining when my father told me to stay away from Noah Hastings. Why are we all of a sudden getting this mushroom? “You’re not the only one who doesn’t want to get hurt” ??? Yeah I get that, but why? Lol what’s the story here? Did someone break your heart before? A mismatch of character vs behaviour vs personality.
I might as well go for Wes, Kaden, Saw or Luther at this point if you’re just going to give me a male lead who is replaceable 🥲 Isobel has more viable chemistry with Wes at this point.
“It just said: Candice, this is all I can offer you. I’m sorry. Goodbye. There was a check in the envelope.”
Clearly someone else had written this without Matthew’s knowledge. You didn’t think to… I don’t know try to get clarity face to face? It’s not really like they left on bad terms so I’m confused 😅
I was so in love with you that your father’s presence in your life didn’t matter to me anymore.
Okay, but didn’t think maybe your daughter would’ve wanted to have a father figure or her father in her life? Not really sure why you thought you can make that decision for your daughter. This sentence strikes me wrong… maybe I’m just reading it wrong? 😩
“It will be harder for me not having you by my side.”
In the words of Isobel “it’s just a stupid dance”… Noah, I think you’ll survive. Just go to the ball, you can be defiant, you can just literally go alone to show your grandfather up. Bringing Isobel so early into the relationship will not only affect you but Isobel as well who literally just got thrown into this world. And will now have to face full wrath of your grandfather.
What will be harder is dealing with your family, your grandfather, the expectations, the Hastings empire that is on your shoulders. Let’s not have our heads up in the clouds here. It’s literally a ball 😂
From what I can gather, my parents intercepted the letter. I’m not sure what they were thinking, but I guess they were hoping, if they hid the truth from me, the whole situation would go away.
Bullseye. But also what type of explanation is this. Why are we dropping bombs in the middle of a high school ball party.
“Matthew LaFleur is your father?”
I don’t know.. didn’t you see his name pop up on my phone when you barged into my room without checking if I was decent, half naked in a towel? I swear you saw it.
(And sorry I did not find that scene cute at all. In fact it was creepy. Noah who clearly wasn’t there for Cress- stop the damn excuses- decided to just knock on a girl’s door? Someone who he’s barely had any interaction with at that point in time. Insane. If that happened to me in real life I would sucker punch the mf.)
me? I asked you who it was that warned you to stay away from me, and you wouldn’t say.
Oh I don’t know, maybe because saying “oh it was my dad, Matthew LaFleur” doesn’t make sense at all in that casual question you dropped 2 weeks ago when I barely knew your ass lmfao let’s not do this right now Noah. I’m seriously going to fight you.
He pulled his jacket off and laid it over my shoulders as he led me away from the ballroom. I
Yes Wes, the only green flag. I think I’m going to just stop here because why the heck would I want to read two other books with this nonsense 😩
All good I’m content with Wes bye, I just know this is going to be a love triangle but clearly Wes is the best guy here.
But there was nothing sweet about having your heart destroyed when the shattered pieces left behind were too broken to put together again.
So… yeah no there’s no way I’m going to let this book 2 love triangle to end where we break Wes’ heart a SECOND time after Sarah the btch just bailed on him. I’m going to leave the series here. I’m so sorry there’s just way too many plot holes, things moved way too fast with Noah.
As a matter of fact, Noah to me? A shell of a person. Can’t see the appeal. He has no substance at all. And this last chapter here? No I’m not giving Noah a chance. After the sickeningly sweet shiznit you say to all of a sudden backtrack because… like what exactly? Because Isobel is a LaFleur?I thought you loved her, why are you angry? Rather you should be angry at your situation, angry that you’re so in love but so confused. You should need a moment with your confusion, ask for space to figure things out. Be heartbroken that you can’t be together. But why are you angry at her? No. This is a boy who clearly is immature, no wonder the grandfather has no faith or confidence in Noah. I wouldn’t either to be honest.
Also.. Things were all sunshine and rainbows with Isobel’s transition into Weybridge. You’re telling me all she’s had to deal with was Veronica spreading a couple A4 printed papers of Isobel waiting tables? And look that’s bullying no matter how I look at it, and this is not at all to belittle the experiences real people have with people like this. But for it to be added in this story? To me, that brought absolutely nothing aside from all her besties finding out that she waits on tables lol. Why do we have to ruin a character, make her do some pretty deplorable actions and make it clear as day that she’s responsible just so that we can move the plot along? Has Isobel even shed one tear or is she a robot? A perfect doll, beauty with brains, so perfect, no flaws aside from the fact that she can’t dance, everyone loves her. Give me Veronica’s redemption arc or something, I think I’d actually love her. She’s not a villainess, just someone who has a goal, not afraid to get what she wants.
As a matter of fact, I think for me the redeeming thing about this book are the side characters. I’m more invested in Wes’ story with Sarah, and I want Wes to have a nice girl that’s not Isobel. As a matter of fact maybe we can get Wes with a girl who truly doesn’t know what it means to live in his world. When I looked at the blurb for the other two I was disappointed to find out that there’s two other books dedicated just for Noah and Isobel? You’re telling me this low substance rivalry and family feud nonsense goes on for two more books? I get maybe one more book for this, but what about the third book..? Make it about Cress, Wes; or make it about Luther/Kaden… SOMEONE ELSE.
Anyway sorry, this whole series is going to have to be a a DNF for me. I was never hooked at any point, start skim reading paragraphs and before you come at me - skim reading doesn’t mean I didn’t know what the heck was going on in the chapter. I just skipped the fluff that I felt gave no value whatsoever. I got so bored at how well things were going up until the very last chapter which was way too theatrical that it was almost comical, I was literally wishing I was anywhere else BUT this scene. Like I want to see what Sawyer, Anna, Cress and Wes are up to while all this dramatic nonsense was happening out on the balcony lol.
