He grinned, and wow, it was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen. That boy should do nothing but smile. Ever.
“No, I’m saying that because, even though I only met you this week, I can tell you’re one of the good ones.”
“But, no, I was thinking more like when you meet someone and expect them to be just like everyone else, but they keep proving you wrong.”
Kaden tilted his head as he looked at me. “Do you know why Luther likes you? Why I like you?”
“Because you’re you and I’m me,” he said with a small smile. “I just feel drawn to you, and it’s been that way ever since you came crashing into my life.”
think you should give Noah more credit,” she replied. “I don’t think he likes you just because you’re new here. I think he likes you because you’re genuine. There aren’t many people like that at our school. Hell, there aren’t many people like that outside our school. You’re kind of special, and don’t you forget it.”
“Kaden, will you tell Luther he’s wrong?” Kaden’s smile only grew. “But I don’t want to lie to him.”
Anna definitely had one thing right. There was something special about the history section of the library.
“I don’t mind intense.” He smiled. “No, but I think I should at least wait until date number two or three before I unload all my baggage on you.”
foolishly trusted Noah with my slowly healing heart only for him to take a hammer to the cracks, shattering the fragile pieces until they were nothing more than specks of dust.
“Well, I seem to remember it differently. I didn’t do anything wrong. I didn’t do anything other than have the wrong family. And you were given a choice. I watched you decide, and you chose to cast me aside.”
The stupid part was, even if I did what he was asking, I wouldn’t have all of him. I’d only get the fragments of a relationship he threw my way behind closed doors. I deserved so much better than that.
