Luther’s expression fell. “Oh, no. You’re not a nerd too, are you?” “I just try to do well in school.” He leaned back in his chair and groaned up at the ceiling. “She is a nerd.”
“A girl after my own heart,”
I just enjoyed immersing myself in the slightly musty smell of old pages and dust wafting through the air.
“Because you’re you and I’m me,” he said with a small smile. “I just feel drawn to you, and it’s been that way ever since you came crashing into my life.”
“Which will turn into two, then three, and then you’ll both live happily ever after.”
“You should probably name your firstborn after me,” he continued. “He wouldn’t exist if not for my matchmaking, after all.”
“You say that like it’s already written in the stars,” he said. “As someone who has had their fate mapped out since the moment he was born, I can tell you that it doesn’t matter how much has been planned. At the end of the day, we are the ones that decide whether to accept it.”
“All girls want a guy who can turn their bones to jelly with one look.” “Has a guy ever turned you to jelly?” “Not unless they’re in one of my romance books. The boys at school just don’t compare.”
“No need to hope. It will always be you.”
“It feels like they are rubbing their happy, sparkling butts in my face.” “I didn’t know stars had butts.” “Oh, they do,” I replied, rolling to my side so I could look directly at Wes. “They’re big balls of gas, after all. And we all know where gas comes from…”
“What kind of medieval shit is he trying to pull? Who even says feud these days?”
“Okay, well, I googled things to do in New York, and everything looked incredible, but I saw there’s this gorgeous library in the city, and I’ve started to develop a bit of a thing for beautiful libraries…”
“How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard,” he whispered before he turned and walked from the room.
“To be in the presence of something that inspired such beautiful stories and touched so many lives.”
“Isobel.” He tilted his head at me. “I see you took up my rebound offer. You got the wrong brother though. That’s Wes you’re kissing.”
“Yeah, guys in the real world have a lot to live up to if you read.”
“Yeah. Apparently, we’re going to have incredible adventures, successful careers, and then we’ll settle down and have five kids.”
