It’s okay to go. To move when you need to run. It stuck with me. Sunk into my bones like a seed and pushed through the old sidewalk cracks like a stubborn wildflower.
I was born to roam. My veins are highways, my heart’s a map, and fences will not keep me in.
“You want to blow off steam, you come find me.” I take a step forward and grip her jaw. “And me only.”
“She is family,” I snarl and give the doctor a hard shove and a glare. “She’s my fucking wife.”
“You stayed on that bull for seven seconds.” Wyatt’s soft, soothing drawl rolls through me better than any pain pill. “Nobody could believe it. They couldn’t breathe. I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. You were the wind. You rode the fucking sky.” I lower my arm to look at him. “I did?” He smiles. “Yeah, Trouble. You did.”
A calm, sure and steady, overtakes me. The pain in my leg, the texts, the nightmare—gone. It’s what Wyatt does to me. He makes me strong. Makes me feel safe.
My girl. My fucking girl who pushes more times than she pulls, can soothe my broken soul with just one touch.
“Cowgirl, I love you.” His voice shakes. “I’ve never loved anyone but you.” I sob-laugh. “Take it back before you ruin both our lives.” “Too late, baby.” He grins. “We got damn good lives to be lived. Together.”
“When you’re done, I’ll be here, and we’ll go home.” Love settles in my heart. I nod. “Yes. Home.” It’s all I want. “I love you.” I make my voice, soft, steady, and see my own words reflected in his eyes. “Ride the sky, baby.”
