Oscar was rambling.
“Oh, this one has literal gold dust in it,” he said, now openly scowling at the new batch of product he had uncovered. “Elixir of Opulence,” he drawled sarcastically. “Radiant diamond infusion face mask. With cactus extract and powdered diamond.” He snorted. “Just when I think I’ve seen it all. What’s next? A crystal dildo?”
Oscar: I rubbed, but I missed the temples. I used a voice, but it wasn’t soothing. I didn’t make any suspicious scenes. Oscar: Gold star for me.
Not a stress ball, a tennis ball.
“That’s why everyone listens to Elijah and Gabriel and not one of these dickheads listens to me,” Oscar said,
“You’re going to need to get a fake boyfriend.”
“Just don’t let him touch you, or look at you, or go any-fucking-where near you.”
Moses beckoned to her—definitely still teasing her. “Just pretend I’m my brother.”
“Goddamn,” he groaned, inhaling deeply. “Have you always smelled this good?” “Have you always spoken your intrusive thoughts out loud?” Theodore demanded. “Pretty much, yeah,” Moses drawled, squeezing Isobel.
“A prayer card, two dolls, and a whole lot of razor blades tucked into the packaging,” Kilian gritted.
“He was trying to bond me?” she screeched, the blood draining from her face. “And you want him to be my fake boyfriend?”
“Dead how?” she asked, cutting Oscar a suspicious look.
“Dead like a corpse.” He didn’t even hesitate. She winced. “Oscar.” “Isobel.”
“Yes, I know,” Elijah said, plucking it out of her hand before turning his attention to Theodore and suddenly changing the topic again. “When are you going to have sex with Wallis?”
“Theo isn’t actually going to sleep with Wallis. Sorry for that.”
“I wasn’t talking about … within the group. I meant sex with people outside the bond is no longer possible.”
Unless they had sex with her.
Cian … oh god, Cian will never survive.
Oh god. Kalen was too big. He would destroy her.
“We can hear your thoughts, Illy.” Theodore was by her side, a hand on her back, rubbing back and forth in a light skitter of strong fingers.
What had she thought? Something about Kalen’s size, certainly … and now that she was thinking about it, she was thinking about it. Because she had seen it. When she slipped into his head while he had a woman hanging suspended before him.
“Nobody is asking you to have sex with them and nobody is expecting it,” he rumbled.
“They’ll use the same words you’re familiar with, princess.” Kalen was using that low, soothing timbre that the Alphas used when they were trying to appease the bond.
His eyes darkened, his breath rushed out, his face inching closer before he suddenly released her head, his hands falling to the desk either side of her thighs. “Good girl.”
Elijah wasn’t about to admit it, but he stared at her like every flutter of her long, dark brown lashes was the most fascinating thing he had ever seen—which was a dangerous thing for her, but she didn’t seem to realise it. Gabriel looked at her like she was one of his precious notebooks and he was barely controlling the urge to stack her onto his desk where she belonged, erecting a ten-foot wall around her so that nobody else could contaminate her.
Niko was, thankfully, displaying far more self-control in Isobel’s presence than the others,
Because the urge to ask her if she was also off limits was too strong.
“We need to address the obvious,” Elijah sighed out. “What if Isobel wants to develop sexual relationships with several of us at the same time?” Okay, maybe it wasn’t so insane. “To appease the bond?” she asked, just to be clear. Elijah cut her a flat look. “No.” “No?” She froze, the word almost getting stuck in her throat. “Because you want to be fucked, Isobel.” Those words delivered in Elijah’s calm, almost cutting tone, were doing strange and confusing things to her insides. “That’s why you would fuck someone.”
“It would mean that touching you lights me on fire,” Moses growled, advancing on her, his eyes flashing black. “It would mean I would crawl out of my own skin to get inside you. Hypothetically,” he tacked on, pausing his strides and holding up his hands, turning partially toward where he must have sensed Theodore leaping out of his chair. “Just as an example. Anyway, we’re done with this meeting, right? I have shit to do.”
the library, which was a sprawling, four-level building hugged by a thick forest. “And that brings us to the end of the tour!” the official
lined road to end up at the chapel, not far from the library. The chapel was a simple building, unlike every other structure they had seen. It had plain, whitewashed sandstone walls and a gently sloping roof of
“But I can also see when people are tied together, like the four of you.” She paused, making sure they were properly absorbing the weight of her statement before adding, “And when those ties are incomplete, as they are now.” “Christ,” Isobel spluttered, at the cool, calm, and collected way Maya had just revealed that she already knew everything.
Luis was counting slowly on his fingers, his brow furrowed in deep confusion.
Mikel (admin): Now we narrow it down, assuming you aren’t going to pick your favourite Alpha. Isobel: I’d rather impale myself on one of the thousand pillars or iron gates around here.
Theodore: We’re rubbing off on you. Kilian: Well, someone is, anyway. Moses: Come again? Kilian: I’m sure she will. Isobel: Huh?
A small giggle burst out of her lips, and she clapped a hand over her mouth. Why was she enjoying this so much? There was something wrong with her. “We are definitely rubbing off on you,” Moses muttered low.
She disobeyed their rules, and that made his hand itch and his stomach burn with the need to see pretty tears in her eyes and even prettier words on her lips like I’m sorry and Sir.
“Above average height, I guess. Long, straight blonde hair. She has thicker lips, I think, but she could just be overlining them. I’ve never seen her without lipstick. Her eyes are grey? Or blue? Maybe green? They keep the lights so low, and she hates when we stare at her so I don’t really know. She seems pretty fit. Always has her nails done. Wears designer clothes. Even without the mask, you can tell she’s hot.”
“I want more.” He spoke calmly. “I want you.” And then, before she could even respond, he added, “I just need to know if you feel what I feel because if you don’t, this is going to go in a different direction.”
“If you don’t feel this”—he captured her hand, pressing it over the erratic beat of his heart, the only part of him betraying his calm exterior—“I’m taking you back to Dorm A and giving this opportunity to someone else. I don’t know what’s going to happen when we bond, but some people say they feel each other’s feelings and hear each other’s thoughts and if I have to feel that your heart doesn’t speed up for me the way mine does for you, I don’t think I’ll handle it well.”
“I can be very very—” His lips brushed hers, both of them inhaling deeply. “—very stubborn, Illy.”
