“If you don’t want me here, then pick up your fucking phone.”
I studied his face, searching for a hint of a lie and unsure how to decipher what I saw. But I knew that I shouldn’t even have to ask the question, that I shouldn’t have to wonder if it was a lie or the truth.
“Men say women are complicated, but they aren’t. Just text back, and don’t stick your dick in other people. Pretty straightforward.”

This was the part where I bragged about all the fucking I did with his wife, but I had too much respect for her to say a word. I wouldn’t rub my conquest in his face, not when I had to drag her name through the mud to accomplish that.
“I’ll bow out. But if she comes to me, she’s fair game.”
“I am dangerous,” he said. “But not to you.”
“Never trust a man to take care of you.” “That’s not the lesson,” I said. “Never trust the wrong man to take care of you.
