I hadn’t kissed a hot classmate in the library—I’d kissed my teacher!
“Can you stay behind for a moment?”
“Um.” I wet my lips, unable to just ignore him entirely as he waited by the door while students filed out. “No.”
“All right then. Have a good day, Miss Lewis. I’m sure we can speak another time…in the library perhaps?” Fuck a goddamn duck, is he flirting? Panicked, I just nodded. “I do like libraries.” Ethan’s smile spread wider and became somewhat wicked. “As do I.”
A forceful blast tossed me through the air moments before my tense body smacked into the grass so hard it rattled my brain inside my skull. What the fuck? “Ow,” I moaned, blinking against the stars dancing in front of my eyes. “Evelyn!”
“Ethan,” I groaned. “What happened?”
Not that she made it easy on me, and not like I had a choice, since her father was all but blackmailing me into the arrangement, which meant I would be the new girl’s shadow for the foreseeable future.
“Just make sure she’s fucking okay?” Benji, the security I knew the best on these grounds, nodded. “I’ll see if I can find her, sir. And as soon as we’ve established the threat level, I’ll be back to release the lock.”
called me a few months ago and told me Eve was in danger. He asked if I could get her into this school and keep an eye on her while he cleaned up whatever mess almost got her killed at her last school.”
“That’s why you’ve been all over her. I couldn’t quite figure it out. I mean, sure, she’s hot, but nothing like the straitlaced bitches you usually enjoy.”
“This explosion today almost took her out, and I’m not sure if it was intentional or not, but I’m not taking a risk with her again. Abraham knows a secret that could destroy not only my life but Mom’s. I need to ensure that I don’t fuck this up.”
need her under the same roof as me, and I need all of you assholes there too. It wouldn’t hurt to get one of us into each of her classes as well.”
“I wasn’t anywhere you, Psycho Barbie. Not even I could move twenty feet in a few seconds. I think that blow to your head might have rattled your few brain cells out of your broken nose.”
“You five will be moving into Bluebell House. You will live there for the rest of this semester, and even longer if I feel you haven’t learned your lessons. You will work together to make it habitable, to the standard you enjoy living; otherwise, you will live in a hovel and not one contractor in this state is going to help you get those repairs done. This will require the sort of teamwork that builds bonds and friendships. You all have more in common than you realize.”
“Yeah, not happening.” Before I could blink, there was a gun pointed at my head, and I had no idea where he’d pulled it from or how he moved so fast. “If you don't sign the NDA, I have no choice but to take you out.”
“Eve.” Whoever called my name sounded as if they were miles away, and there was an echoing in my head that slammed as hard as my heartbeat. For a moment in time, as ragged breaths heaved in and out of me, all that existed were panic and memories.
I’d almost bled to death without a single person I cared about even knowing I was in trouble. “What’s happening? She’s hyperventilating. Get her down on the floor before she passes out.”
“What the fuck did you do, Connor? I'm going to kill you!”
“Breathe with me, sweetheart,” he whispered, his husky voice close to my ear. “In and out, regulate your breathing. No one will hurt you. I promise. I will destroy anyone who tries.”
“Fuck.” And then Ethan was fisting the back of my head, fingers tangling in my hair as he pulled my head back and crushed his lips against mine.
“Put the fucking gun away, Connor,” Ethan snapped, making me jump a little. The gun. That was what’d sent me into a panic attack. Connor pulled a fucking gun on me. “Not until she signs the NDA,”
Brodie stepped between Connor and me,
“She’ll sign it, bro. Put the gun away. Can’t you see what it’s doing to her?” My tunnel vision blurred out everything except Brodie and the paperwork in his hands. Connor muttered something about sensitive snowflakes and the surge of anger nearly eclipsed my panic. Nearly but not completely.
“Evelyn, this was a disastrous idea. I’ll speak to Dean Attworth and—” Ethan began. “You can’t,” Andrew snapped. Ethan’s soothing hand on my back stilled. “Why the fuck not? Evelyn isn’t safe here so—” “Oh, but she’s safe under your watchful eye, Professor? Do I need to report what we all just witnessed as irrefutable inappropriate conduct with a student?”
“Good thing you knew how to snap me out of it, then.”
“Going somewhere?” Andrew asked, popping out of nowhere like a creepy fuck. Gritting my teeth, I turned to face him. “Yeah. Is that allowed, or are you going to pull a gun on me as well?”
“I protect my friends.”
“Haze, hey, buddy. You’re okay. No one is touching you. It’s okay.”
“Are you okay, Evie? I’m so sorry. We should have told you to never touch Haze, no matter what the circumstances are. He didn’t hurt you right?” He pulled back to look me over, and even in my dazed state, I managed to answer.
“Come on, sweetheart. I’ll drop you in your room and make sure nothing else happens.”
“Or maybe I have a great personality, and he wants to be friends without wanting to fuck me. Maybe.”
“Eve, I didn’t mean—” Sven started to backtrack, but the barista called out my name and I stood up. “It’s cool, Sven. I get it. I’m heading to the library, but I’ll see you around.”
“Are you saying this is our spot, Professor Sullivan?” Fuck me. Was I flirting,
“What if I said that it was? Would you meet me here again?”
“I’ve got to get to class,” he said softly. “But I need you to meet me here tomorrow, sweetheart. Just make it thirty minutes earlier.”
He pressed his lips to the corner of my mouth, his tongue sweeping across my lip as if he needed to taste me, and then he was gone.
“Bestie, I know you’re not ignoring me. Baby girl, you’re breaking my heart.”
“Get your ass over there, new girl. If you hurt Brodie Keller, we’re going to hurt you.”
“Don’t ever threaten, Eve. That’s my last warning.”
“Don’t lie. You missed me, Drew.” “What…” I started to say, then yawned. “What the fuck is going on?” I tried again.
“I asked him to, but he wouldn’t do it. No wonder I couldn’t feel the scene.”
you forgot the oysters, Andrew Knightsbridge. But don’t worry, I won’t forget. Shellfish is my favorite.
LMFAOOOOO I leave you all alone for five minutes and all hell breaks loose. I’ve never been so excited to finish up an audition and get back home. Might want to stock up on EpiPens, Con.
“I need some shit from the store,” he said simply, relaxing against the leather. “You’ll barely even notice that I’m here.” Right. Because it was easy to forget six and half feet of asshole, who looked like a Greek god, with the personality of a garden gnome.
“Great idea. You wanna join me, Lilith?” “What the fuck did you call her?”
really, really needed to have a serious chat with him before I slipped and fell onto his dick.
You’re in so much trouble, Evie babe. Don’t worry, I’ve got your back ;)
“Not a fucking chance, Evelyn Lewis. Get your ass into the living room. Now!”
“Got it. Can I go to bed now, or did you want to bend me over your knee and spank my ass for ignoring your messages?” Whoops, there went my plan to not poke the bear.
his pupils dilated, and his gaze flicked down my body like he was considering how that scene might play out.
