“Eve,” I mumbled, the pounding in my head so intense I needed to close my eyes. “Call me Eve.” He gave a small, husky laugh. “More like Lilith than Eve with lips like that.”
It was turning into an obsession, keeping an eye on Evelyn Cromwell…well, Lewis now.
since her father was all but blackmailing me into the arrangement, which meant I would be the new girl’s shadow for the foreseeable future.
“Abraham was friends with my mom in high school.
we used to hang out all the time when we were younger.
“He called me a few months ago and told me Eve was in danger. He asked if I could get her into this school and keep an eye on her while he cleaned up whatever mess almost got her killed at her last school.”
“Breathe with me, sweetheart,” he whispered, his husky voice close to my ear. “In and out, regulate your breathing. No one will hurt you. I promise. I will destroy anyone who tries.”

I closed the campus video feeds and switched to our house account—to one camera feed in particular. Eve’s bedroom.
I sat there for a few minutes, watching Eve sleeping on my huge computer monitor. If she ever found out I’d placed a camera in her room…if anyone found out…I’d be toast. Worse if they found out about the one in the shower. That feed was my favorite, for totally perverse reasons.
Andrew might think this was a short-term assignment, but I knew better. She was ours now. For good.
