Her smile changes everything about her looks. Without it, she’s barely pretty, but her grin throws the switch at the amusement park. Her whole face lights up, neon bright.
How did they die?, and for that I’m grateful because I loathe the way acquaintances will casually ask me to relive the worst night of my life. Most people can’t resist their curiosity.
“You’re right…I’m not in control of my life. And it’s making me miserable.” It feels so heavy to say it out loud. My body seems to sink into the floor, and the sinking never stops.
“There is no ‘worse’ when it comes to losing the people you love.”
“Emotion can’t be banished. It can only be stuffed down inside to fester.” “And what happens when it festers?” Dane asks. “It rots you from the inside out.”

She hasn’t let go. I told her the truth, and she hasn’t let go. She’s still here with me, holding me, accepting me, in spite of it all.
“You’re saying…don’t be afraid of the truth.” “No matter how ugly it might be.”
“Everybody fucks up. And everyone can change. But real change is painful, and for some, it might just kill ‘em.”
“Because you have to kill the part of yourself you don’t like. And for some people…that’s almost all of them.”
