The way he assertively grabbed my body and the sultry fragrance of amber and spice with a slight undernote of smoke let me know it was him. I couldn’t have fought against the pull my body had toward him if I’d wanted to.
“Who will you kill for me?” My voice was thick and raspy, as it so often was when I spoke to Mendax. Was he referring to my father or Eli? “Everyone.”
My feet slowly carried me to him. He was like a siren calling to a ship lost at sea—I was powerless against the pull.
When my skin touched his, my eyelids flickered like butterfly wings as I fought against the urge to weep. Instantly, his hands moved to my back, spreading across my tired muscles. A heavy sigh escaped me. I waited for him to grip my neck seductively or press against me and say something deliciously sensual, but he never did.
“We are in this together, always. You are mine only, regardless of the Fates’ decisions.”
“Tell me you’ll love me in every lifetime, and I will let you come,”
“In every lifetime, in every realm, in every span of time, I will love you endlessly, Malum.”
I want to crawl inside you and consume my way out, knowing that every part of you is forever a part of me. I crave command over every thought you’ve ever had, to feel every worthless surface that has ever touched your skin. I want your needs and cravings buried so inside my own flesh and bones, they become indistinguishable from my own. That’s what I want, pet.
A soft breeze removed some of the snow that dusted our path, revealing more of the sparkling quartz of the mountain. It was unlike anything I had ever seen. The ice was almost indecipherable from chunks of clear crystal that stuck out from the granite of the mountain we traversed. Little bits of amethyst mixed in with the ice and quartz, sparkling in the small patches of sun that were visible through the dappling of snow that clung to the tight, winding ledge of the mountain.
“I enjoy your laugh immensely.” He deepened the kiss as he wrapped me tightly in his embrace. How was it possible one person was capable of making me feel this way? “I love you, Calypso. Stop leaving me though, or I will make you regret it, I promise.”
“How do you know I hugged her?” he challenged. I took a big breath in before slowly letting it go. “Because the creature hasn’t given me a moment’s peace since I met her. Her body, her voice, even the scent of her is like blood to a leech with me. I can’t have enough of her, so my senses seek her out with a lupine whine of desperation. I know that you hugged her. A lot.”
