Our minds are fundamentally linked to others’ through the sending and receiving of signals. Ruptured connection, especially of our nonverbal signals, separates our primary emotions from the other person and we are cast adrift and can no longer sense our own minds within the mind of the other. We no longer feel felt, but instead feel misunderstood and alone.
