Hold on, little omega. We’re coming for you.
“Calm,” he murmured, in his low, slightly accented rumble. “Calm yourself, Emmeline. You are not alone. I will not let them harm you.”
Slade’s energy was like liquid lava, burning into my skin, but it didn’t bother me.
“Snow?” I questioned, forcing
“Your wolf’s fur is the whitest I’ve ever seen,” he explained, as he finally glanced my way, his expression neutral. His eyes burned though. “It reminds me of the purity of snow, and your arctic blue eyes only add to the vibe.”
“Are you saying that Hunter isn’t the only stalker I have to deal with in the pack?”
“Every alpha in your pack has their way of keeping track of you, Emmeline,” he said nonchalantly. “Mine is just more thorough.”
Her fire enticed us, and I almost smiled. Emme was an adorable kitten compared to my beast, but I’d let her have her dominance for the moment,
The fires were always churning and burning with the power of my ancestors, but her fear was a fuel I’d never experienced. I hadn’t lost control in years, but today… I was on the verge.
I’d spent years expecting every brush across my skin to hurt, and it would take lifetimes to break that instinct. Not that I’d ever bothered to try rerouting my brain when it came to touch, but for a moment I wished to be less broken.
Emmeline Anders was all color and grayscale, spontaneity and beauty. It was a foreign language.
Fire and need, anger and hope, desire and despair. A plethora of contradictory emotions swirled within me, and I’d never felt so alive.
“How could you ever doubt we wouldn’t find you fast, Shortcake.
“Emme, for the love of my sanity, can you please step away from the most dangerous shifter beast in the world.” Hunter’s words were strained, which entertained me to no end.
“The dragon is not a fucking pet,” he snarled, his hands trembling at his side.
“I’ve waited a lifetime for you, Emmeline,” he whispered close to my ear. “And if I’ve learned anything since you came into my life, it’s that if you’re not alive then I’m not alive. I refuse to do this shit without you. I can’t do this without you. That’s just how it is now and forever.”
Hunter’s mocha goodness had me desperate for a hit of caffeine; Slade’s toasted marshmallow had me dreaming of nights under the stars; Kellan’s cinnamon and caramel were scents I associated with home and love; and Finley’s vanilla cherry was the least familiar but no less potent.
I’m not slobbering on her. I’m adoring her. I’m fucking obsessed with her, and I’ll never stop showing her. She’d have to kill me first, and if that’s her choice, I still stand by my obsession.”
