We are like the eight-year-old boy who rests his happiness in his “stars”—his circumstances—rather than recognizing what we have in Christ. This is why in the Lord’s Prayer we don’t get to the petition for our daily bread and needs until we have spent time remembering the greatness of God and reigniting our love for him. Only then can we pray rightly for happiness and for our needs.
