Prayer is a refuge.
Prayer changes us.
Through prayer “something”—not everything—is understood,
Prayer is awe, intimacy, struggle—yet the way to reality. There is nothing more important, or harder, or richer, or more life-altering. There is absolutely nothing so great as prayer.
Prayer both requires and empowers the abandonment of self-justification, blame shifting, self-pity, and spiritual pride.
The Lord’s Prayer may be the single set of words spoken more often than any other in the history of the world. Jesus Christ gave it to us as the key to unlock all the riches of prayer. Yet it is an untapped resource, partially because it is so very familiar.
If we can’t say “thy will be done” from the bottom of our hearts, we will never know any peace.
