(Unless the decision was about who he was going to bond with, in which case Chaos was definitely in charge.)
Places to be apparently meant in Cooper’s bed, with Cooper tucked under a million blankets—more than he’d known he owned—sweating his balls off while Chaos insisted they all stay on until he’d “made a full recovery.” Cooper wasn’t sure what Chaos’s version of a full recovery even was—it seemed to involve Cooper taking a nap.
“You are my human,” Chaos hissed, literal flames dancing in his eyes. “I found you, fair and square. I’m being patient and gentle and tricky as a fox to keep you close, but if that’s not working, I can be much—” He looked around the room, as if trying to find an answer there, then settled his gaze back on Cooper. “Much scarier about it.”
“We are bonding,” Chaos declared, haughty as anything. “You and I. No other humans. Not for you, not for me.”
“I wanted freedom, and instead I’m tied to you. But I find I don’t mind being grounded, if I’m grounded with you, Cooper.”
Holy shit. Cooper’s stomach bottomed out with the realization. Chaos wants to keep me.
And he’d chosen Cooper.
“Was all that ‘practice’ talk just a way of getting into my pants?” “Yes,” Chaos told him gleefully, throwing his head back in a throaty laugh. “Wasn’t that clever of me?” He beamed at Cooper. “I’ve wanted to keep you from the start.”
“I will be your lover and friend and family and god and anything else you need.”
Although, if Cooper wanted it one day—if he asked so very nicely to have Chaos’s cocks in two holes at once—Chaos would of course oblige. He was generous that way.
Whoever it would have been, their hatchlings wouldn’t have been nearly as adorable as his imaginary ones with Cooper. Chaos pictured them coming out of their shells with little glasses already on their tiny faces. Cute. Cute, cute, cute.
To tell him all about their imaginary future with their imaginary, bespectacled hatchlings.
And if anything or anyone had hurt him in any way… Then this realm would find out just how dangerous an unleashed chaos demon could be.
Holy shit. Cooper’s kidnapping had broken his demon.
“Love,” Chaos mused, still frowning. “It’s a stupid, human word. A nonsense word. I’m yours. You’re mine.”
“I want you because you’re lovely and special and bright, even when you’re sad. Because even when you’re scared or nervous, you carry on. Because you’re brave, though you don’t see it. I love you because you’re not the strongest or the fiercest or the wildest, and yet somehow you’re still perfect. It doesn’t make sense, and that’s the best part.”
Cooper asked me not to kill everyone, he reminded himself for the hundredth time. He set a boundary, as he says. I will respect it.
Stupid shower. Chaos would burn it down if he didn’t need it to wash off the weasel blood.
“Your hair’s black,” he said after a moment. “And so are your eyes. I can barely see the whites around them.” “I’m having dark feelings,” Chaos admitted. “Because I was hurt.” “Because you were almost taken from me.”
“Your version of cuteness aggression is alarming.”
As if Chaos’s soul hadn’t just merged with Cooper’s but he’d given his away, given it all to his sweet summoner. Chaos liked that idea. What did he need with his soul? It already belonged to Cooper.
“I can feel you.” He tapped his chest. “So wild. And joyful. Brave.” Chaos lifted his fingers to Cooper’s cheeks. They were wet. “You’re crying.” Cooper blinked, and more tears fell from beneath his glasses. “It feels so good, to have you here. I think—I think I missed you. I’ve been missing you my whole life, and I didn’t even know.”
Cooper touched Chaos’s cheek with a smile. “I hope our imaginary hatchlings have your eyes.”
For whatever reason, this wild, wonderful demon would be happy wherever they went, as long as he was at Cooper’s side.
